Rep. Thanedar Condemns Proposed Senate Deal to Reopen Government
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar spoke out against the deal that was struck in the Senate to reopen the government.
“This is not a deal; it is a surrender by the Senate. If and when this deal reaches the House, I will be a firm and vocal no,” said Thanedar. “While it's good that federal workers are back to work, healthcare costs are simply too important. With Trump’s tariffs making everything expensive, Americans cannot afford skyrocketing premiums. Republicans took advantage of our disunity, and these eight Senators caved in prematurely.
“Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune claim that they will bring the issue of these tax credits up at a later, unspecified date. This is nothing more than a “pinky promise” from a party and administration with a long history of going back on their word and abandoning the American people. Senate Democrats needed to present a united front and should have rejected this offer.”
Congressman Shri Thanedar proudly represents Michigan's 13th Congressional District, which includes Detroit, Downriver, and the Grosse Pointes. As a champion for working families, Shri is committed to advancing economic opportunities, education, healthcare access, and entrepreneurship for underserved communities. Drawing from his journey from poverty to success, he works tirelessly to uplift Metro Detroit, ensuring every resident has the resources and support they need to thrive.
