MY SMALL BUSINESS STORY
My story is not one of privilege or silver spoons but rather of hardship, perseverance, and the unwavering belief in the promise of the American dream. Arriving in the United States in pursuit of higher education, I faced the harsh reality of homelessness, often sleeping in my car and working odd jobs to make ends meet, all while sending money back to my family in India.
Through sheer grit and an unyielding commitment to education, I forged ahead. After earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry, I established my own small business. That decision changed my life fundamentally and catapulted me into a life and lifestyle that would seem unbelievable to my younger self.
My journey to the halls of Congress has instilled in me a profound understanding of the challenges faced by hardworking Americans striving to build better lives for themselves and their families. It's a perspective that guides my every decision and fuels my passion for public service and supporting our nation’s small businesses.

WHAT I’M DOING IN WASHINGTON
Alongside these federal, state, and local resources, I am working to make changes to the law for the benefit of both our state and the nation.
Introduced HR.7242 “The Loans In Our Neighborhoods (LIONs) Act”
-
This bill would double the limit of 7(a) loans available from $5 million to $10 million.
-
This initiative is focused on strengthening the support system for small businesses, recognizing their critical role in local economies and communities. With more money available, businesses can form and grow at a much faster rate. This will create jobs, drive innovation, and contribute to America's Small Business Boom.
Introduced HR4661 “One Stop Shop for Small Business Licensing Act”
-
A bill that would streamline the licensing process and reduce the costs of obtaining licenses and permits, which is a barrier to entry to establishing a small business.
Co-Led HR.1541 “Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act”
-
A bill that would assist with apprenticeship programs directly to small business development centers. In turn, small businesses will have the resources to offer more apprenticeships and job opportunities to workers.
Cosponsored HR1730 “Supporting Small Business and Career and Technical Education Act of 2023”
-
A bill that would amend the Small Business Act to include requirements relating to graduates of career and technical education programs or programs of study for small business development centers and women’s business centers.
Cosponsored HR400 “Investing in Main Street Act of 2023”
-
A bill that would authorize certain banking entities to invest up to 15% of their capital and surplus in one or more small business investment companies (SBICs) or in any entity established to invest solely in SBICs.
