Internships
Welcome to Congressman Shri Thanedar's internship program! We are excited to offer part- and full-time internships to college students, recent graduates, and individuals in similar post-high school training programs. Our office is dedicated to fostering the success of our interns beyond their time with us, and we take pride in seeing our former interns excel in other offices across Capitol Hill, state-wide political campaigns, and profit and non-profit organizations.
Internship Terms and Locations
Our internships run during the Spring (Jan-May), Summer (May-Aug), and Fall (Sep-Dec) seasons. We provide needs-based stipends to eligible students who qualify for Pell Grants. Currently, our internship program has returned to in-person work, and we have opportunities available in our Detroit and Washington, D.C. offices.
What We Look For
Ideal internship applicants are proactive self-starters with a passion for community service and a customer service mindset. We seek individuals who are intellectually curious, enjoy engaging in meaningful conversations over the phone, and possess strong writing skills.
Responsibilities and Benefits
You will have a wide range of responsibilities that include assisting constituents, conducting research, drafting memos for our legislative staff, supporting our communications team, and providing staffing support to Congressman Shri Thanedar during hearings and meetings. Press interns will be responsible for compiling and distributing press clips, helping draft copy for press and digital materials, and developing digital content. Press interns will have the opportunity to staff the congressman to capture videos and photos of events. This internship offers a unique opportunity to witness Congress up close and from the inside, gaining invaluable experience in the legislative process. Prior volunteer, leadership, or work experience is a plus, and individuals with ties to MI-13 are particularly encouraged to apply.
