Congressman Shri Thanedar Introduces Censure Resolution against Representative Andy Ogles for Anti-Immigrant Remarks

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) introduced a Censure Resolution against Representative Andy Ogles (TN-05) over his racist, bigoted, anti-immigrant tirade this week after Zohran Mamdani, a South-Asian immigrant from Uganda, won the first round of the New York City Democratic mayoral primary election. Immigrants have made our country great, but instead of recognizing this fact, Ogles used numerous anti-immigrant dog whistles against Mamdani, calling him “Little Muhammad” and for him to be deported and stripped of his United States citizenship.

“The recent behavior from one of my colleagues is absolutely vile, disgusting, and has no place in this country, and especially not in Congress. In this country, when you don’t like someone’s policies, you beat them in an election. You do not go crying to Trump, begging for their deportation,” said Thanedar.

“As an immigrant myself, I have seen my fair share of racist attacks. Every day, MAGA tells me to go back to India, says I should be deported, and comments on my accent and appearance. But this has no place in the House of Representatives. Representative Ogle's actions are completely unacceptable, and he should be censured.”

Congressman Shri Thanedar proudly represents Michigan's 13th Congressional District, which includes Detroit, Downriver, and the Grosse Pointes. As a champion for working families, Shri is committed to advancing economic opportunities, education, healthcare access, and entrepreneurship for underserved communities.
