Congressman Shri Thanedar Stands in Solidarity with Roofers Local 149 Against USPS Outsourcing
Allen Park, MI – Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) stood shoulder-to-shoulder with members of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Workers Local No. 149 as they protested the U.S. Postal Service’s decision to outsource critical roofing work to a non-union, out-of-state company.
Local 149 members gathered outside the USPS facility at 1500 Fairlane Drive in Allen Park to voice their opposition to the Postal Service’s choice to hire Trumble Construction/RBI Roofing—a Texas-based non-union contractor—rather than relying on the experienced union labor available right here in Michigan’s 13th District.
“Our district is home to some of the most skilled, hard-working tradespeople in the country,” said Rep. Thanedar. “Outsourcing these jobs to an out-of-state non-union company is a direct insult to their craftsmanship, their commitment, and the economic well-being of our community.”
Congressman Thanedar emphasized that the decision by USPS undermines local jobs and disrespects the value of union labor. “This isn’t just about one contract,” he said. “It’s about fairness, economic justice, and standing up for Michigan workers who have earned the right to compete for these opportunities.”
Thanedar pledged to continue advocating for labor protections and policies that prioritize local employment, community investment, and strong union standards.
