Rep. Shri Thanedar Introduces the Health Disparity Zones Act of 2023 to Combat Health Inequities
Washington, DC - November 21, 2023 - Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) introduced the "Health Disparity Zones Act of 2023." This legislation aims to address and reduce the significant health disparities present in underserved and disadvantaged areas across the United States by establishing Health Disparity Zones.
"The Health Disparity Zones Act is a crucial step towards bridging the gap in healthcare inequities that plague our nation," said Congressman Thanedar. "By identifying and supporting these zones, we can target resources effectively to those communities most in need."
Key elements of the Health Disparity Zones Act include:

Designation of Health Disparity Zones: Areas with documented health disparities and poor health outcomes will be designated as Health Disparity Zones.

Comprehensive Support: The Act proposes tax incentives, grants, and a student loan repayment program to attract and retain healthcare professionals in these zones.

Increased Medicare Payments: A 10-percent increase in Medicare Part B payment rates for services in Health Disparity Zones.

Collaborative Approach: Involving community-based organizations, healthcare providers, and local governments in the development of effective health strategies.
