State, Local Leaders Join Thanedar for Listening Session and Washington Update
Detroit, MI – This week, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) hosted a breakfast for dozens of state and local elected officials in Detroit to hear what issues are at the top of their minds and to provide and update on developments in Washington, D.C. as well as the full range of services his office offers.
“The most important thing in my office is to be responsive to my constituents and the local leaders in our community,” said Congressman Thanedar. “During the course of the breakfast, I was able to update officials about the pending shutdown, President Biden’s proposed funding package for Israel and Ukraine, and the billions of dollars we’re bringing back to the district through Community Project Funding and other revenue streams.”
In addition to his work on federal legislation in Washington, Congressman Thanedar outlined the process through which his 22 staff members, including fellows and interns, have directly helped nearly 1,000 constituents since he took office in January. Constituent case workers in the Congressman’s Detroit office start working on cases within 48 hours. Congressman Thanedar’s office has resolved 88% of the cases received and returned almost $650,000 owed to constituents by federal agencies. Staffers are standing by to help constituents secure help with passports, the IRS, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Affairs, Social Security, immigration issues, and many other federal agencies.
“I believe I have the hardest working staff in Congress,” continued Thanedar. “When community members come in with a problem or issue with a federal agency, I guarantee that they are going to receive quick, personal service to get them the help they need as soon as possible.”
“It was a pleasure meeting all of the Congressman’s staff and learning how each one can assist Wyandotte. It’s helpful to understand how his office works as we prepare and pursue more projects, which will only be possible the Congressman’s help,” said Mayor Robert DeSana from the City of Wyandotte
“This breakfast was an engaging opportunity for me to hear directly from the Congressman about the status of the passing of the budget and relevant information on federal funding coming back to the district,” said Grosse Pointe Farms Councilwoman Sierra Donaven.
Attendees at the breakfast included officials from Allen Park, Dearborn Heights, Detroit, Ecorse, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Woods, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park, River Rouge, Romulus, Wyandotte, and Wayne County.
