Rep. Shri Thanedar Expresses Support for President Biden's Targeted Strikes Against Houthi-Controlled Areas in Yemen
Washington, DC - January 12, 2023 - Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) today issued the following statement in support of President Biden's targeted strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, which were conducted in coordination with coalition partners in response to threats to international maritime security in the Red Sea:
“I stand firmly behind President Biden's decisive actions, alongside our coalition partners, in conducting targeted strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. These strikes send a resolute message in response to the alarming Houthi attacks on international maritime vessels in the Red Sea, threatening the safety of U.S. personnel and our global allies. The coordinated efforts of the international community reinforce our commitment to defending freedom of navigation and ensuring the safety of critical commercial routes.
“It is crucial to recognize that the Houthi rebels' actions not only endanger the lives of innocent civilians and disrupt international trade but also pose a direct threat to regional stability and innocent people in Yemen. The Houthi's targeting of commercial vessels is designed to undermine the security of Israel and to impede Israel's ability to defend itself against threats from groups like Hamas by eroding international support. But we will not back down. As we confront these challenges, we must remain vigilant and resolute in our commitment to protecting the interests of the United States, our allies, and our strategic partners in the region.”
