SBA Administrator Guzman Will Join Congressman Thanedar to Highlight Black Small Business Boom Under Biden-Harris Administration
Washington, DC - February 20, 2024 - On February 21st, Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the voice in President Biden’s Cabinet for America’s more than 33 million small businesses, will travel to Detroit, Michigan to kick off the Investing in America tour with a spotlight on the Black Small Business Boom under the Biden-Harris Administration.
Joined by Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13), Administrator Guzman will begin her day with visits to three Black-owned businesses on the Avenue of Fashion, a historic predominantly Black-owned shopping district in Detroit. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, Black business ownership is growing at its fastest rate in more than three decades and the rate of Black households that own a business has more than doubled.
After the business visits conclude, the Administrator and Congressman will lead a roundtable discussion with local Black business owners where they will discuss the rise of Black entrepreneurship under the Biden-Harris Administration and the ongoing Small Business Boom, which has seen more than 423,000 applications to start new businesses in Michigan since the President took office. There will be a media availability with Administrator Guzman and Congressman Thanedar prior to the start of the roundtable.
These events are open to members of the media who RSVP to theodora.lake@sba.gov.
